At this intimate outdoor wedding at Catoctin Quaker Camp in Maryland (where the couple first met and still works together), the ceremony followed a traditional Quaker format: the bride and groom say their vows, and then anyone in the audience who is moved to speak stands up and gives spontaneous testimony to the couple. This painting depicts both components of the service simultaneously. I began painting the background a little in advance of the 2-hour ceremony and painted during the ceremony itself. I then completed the painting in the studio, adding more detailed portraits of the bride, groom, and family members, based on reference photos.

"The detail in our painting is really incredible. The likenesses of our families are pretty impeccable. Katherine definitely captured the moment. This is such a wonderful handmade gift."
