Through the STARR after-school program, I worked with students in grades 5-6 at PS 226 in Midwood, Brooklyn, to add more details to an existing mural at the school (painted by the New York Cares program in 2006). Through design workshops, students discussed the meaning of the mural (celebrating learning and other positive activities that take place at school), and brainstormed new elements to add to make it even more specific to PS 226 (such as the panther mascot). The mural was painted with the participation of these students.
