The Lobby (pre-installation shot)
The Lobby (pre-installation shot)
Graphite, Conte Crayon, and Acrylic on Found Wood Panels
22” X 18”
2009

"The Lobby" represents the disjointed body of a luxury condo building under construction, drawn and painted on 3 wood panels I found on the street (from a discarded piece of furniture). The middle and lowermost panel represent typical posters/billboards on display at such construction sites, and look into the building's imagined future “lobby.” The borderline apocalyptic and sublime color palette is based on 19th Century Hudson River School paintings, and the saturated hues of construction site tarps, ads, and awnings. A faded logo in the lower left of the bottom panel proclaims, "View Brooklyn differently."
